The Late Judge Mabee
Petrolia Advertiser

The St. Thomas Times wants to know if all the men of Jim Mabee's type have gone extinct.

"Jim" Mabee was the late Judge Mabee, chairman of the Board of Railway Commissioners. He had the mind of a giant and the tenderness of a woman, combined with a rare personality.

Great corporations did not awe him, and his verdicts were always accepted without complaint, both sides to the dispute realizing that he would deal with them fairly and honestly.

If, as The Times seems to think, the present board does not measure up to that of Judge Mabee's regime, we can only answer, there was only one Jim Mabee. As he said himself, his judgments were based, not so much on the law as on common sense.
