Port Dover Couple Mark
Diamond Wedding Today

(Observer Correspondent)

Port Dover: Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Long gathered at Ivey's Summer Garden this (Tuesday) afternoon to help them celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary, the event marking the 60th anniversary of their marriage.

On 7 Aug 1874, when Norfolk was still in the pioneer stage, Joseph W. Long and Wilmena McBride were married at Black Creek parsonage. From that time on they have lived in Woodhouse Township, engaging in farming until they retired to their present home on Brant Hill.

Although both are 80 years of age, they are enjoying excellent health and have many more happy years to look forward to.

With the exception of their two sons, Arthur and Charles, who have passed away, all their children were present for the celebration. They are
John Long of Santa Parbara, California;
Mrs. Emma Belbeck of Port Dover;
Mrs. John Greenbury of Flint Michigan;
George Long of Port Dover;
Bruce Long of Flint, Michigan;
Mrs. C. A. Ferris of Waterford;
Craig Long of Port Dover;
Perry Long of Port Dover;
and Merrit Long of Fint, Michigan.
The 40 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren were also present.

Mrs. John Aaron McBride of Port Dover who attended Mr. and Mrs. Long at their marriage, helped celebrate. Also present were Mr. Long's only living brother, Mr. Frank Long of Ancaster, and Mrs. Long's Mrs. Long's brothers and sisters:
John Aaron McBride of Port Dover;
Sam McBride of Port Dover;
George McBride of Marburg;
Sidney McBride of Marburg;
Robert McBride of Hagersville;
Mrs. Nettie McCarter of Jarvis;
Mrs. Nancy Cooper of Beamsville;
and Mrs. Elizabeth Perry of Port Dover.

Through the kindness of Mr. A. B. Ivey in loaning the Summer Garden for the occasions, Mr. and Mrs. Long have been able to celebrate their 50th, 55th and 60th anniversaries there.
