Following an illness
extending over six moths, the death occurred on Tuesday of Joseph W.
Long of Port Dover, in his 83rd year.
Born near Caledonia, where
he received his education, he later married Wilhemina [sic]
McBride of Marburg and moved to this district.
For a number of years he
farmed and later was teamster at T. A. Ivey and Sons, retiring about
a year ago.
Surviving beside his wife
are six sons:
John H., of Santa Barbara, California;
Bruce T. and Merrit A. of Flint, Michigan;
George, Craig and Perry of Port Dover;
and two daughters: Mrs. Clarence Ferris of Waterford
and Mrs. John Greenbury of Flint, Michigan.
The funeral was held on
Thursday from his late residence to Grace United Church, with
the
Rev. F. W. Mahaffy in charge of the service.
The pallbearers were five
sons and one son-in-law, George, Craig, Bruce, Perry and Merrit
Long, and
Alvie Belbeck. Interment was in Port Dover Cemetery.
