The Late Dr. Samuel Jacques [sic]

Dr. Smauel Jacques [sic] (photo) died on Friday, 1 Feb 1918 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fred G. Wilkinson, at Emo, Ontario. The cause of death was a sudden and unexpected attack of heart failure.

Dr. Jaques [sic] was the son of Mr. Wm. Jacques [sic] of Water Street, Simcoe. He was born here, 30 Apr 1891 [sic]. He was a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, and an undergraduate of Toronto University in Veterinary Science. After completing his course he obtained an appointment as a Government inspector and spent four years at Hamilton and Montreal.

On the outbreak of the war he offered his services as a veterinary surgeon, but did not succeed in getting a place. Later he enlisted in the 141st Battalion at Emo, in which unit he was Battalion Quartermaster-Sergeant. When the battalion went overseas he was not permitted to accompany it, as he had contracted inflammatory rheumatism.

He was unmarried and is survived by his father, two brother [sic], Captain John Jacques [sic], now with the forces in Palestine, and Alderman Augustus Jacques [sic] of Simcoe, and six sisters: Mrs. Charles Dove of Dundas,
Mrs. A. Matthews of Los Angeles, Mrs. Wilkinson of Emo,
Mrs. Walter Forse of Simcoe, Mrs. Charles Rowe of Dundas, and Miss Jessie at home.

The body is being brought to Simcoe for interment in Oakwood cemetery, but the date of the funeral had not been set this morning.
