By the decease of Mrs. Catharine Howey, wife of the late James Howey, Norfolk County loses one of its oldest pioneers.

Deceased, who was born in Welland County 89 years ago this April, came to this county at the early age of nine years.

Mrs. Howey was a Canadian of Canadians, who could boast of an ancestry of four generation of Canadians.

Of her family of eight daughters and five sons, deceased is survived by all her children with the exception of one son.

Her youngest son, George, is overseas with the 114th Haldimand Battalion.

The news of the demise of a gentle mother, a neighbor always willing to lend a helping hand to aid the sick and a staunch friend of the friendless was received with profound regret by her many friends in Norfolk and Haldimand.
