On Tuesday night Mrs. Joseph Howe, the wife of one of the most prosperous farmers in this vicinity, and the mother of a large and well to do family, took advantage of the temporary absence of the rest of the family and drowned herself in the cistern.

Mrs. Howe had been despondent for the past few months on account of one of her sons being drafted for the C.E.F., and the best efforts of her family and friends to revive her spirits proved of no avail.

Heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved family will be made manifest by the whole community.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Howe was held last Friday from the home. It was more largely attended than any like occasion here for a number of years. The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Peach, pastor of the
Free Methodist Church. Interment took place in
Bayview Cemetery.
