A death that has brought out
numerous declarations and expressions of sympathy occurred Tuesday
evening, when John Agar Harper, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harper of
John Street died of pneumonia, which was superinduced by influenza.
He was taken ill on
Saturday, 12 Oct 1918 and at first it looked as if he would soon be
convalescent. The ravages of the disease however were too much for
his constitution, and pneumonia followed with a fatal result.
The young man was in his
17th year and for some time had been a member of the staff of
the Molsons Bank. He was connected with St.
James Choir, the Sunday School and the League, and had many friends who keenly regret his early demise.
He is survived by his
parents, a half-brother, Lloyd Cook of Norwich, and three sisters, Misses Lenore, Nina and Mary Harper.
The funeral services were
held Friday afternoon at the family home, 235 John Street, at 3
o'clock, Rev. D. A. Moir officiating, when a large number of friends
were present.
The bearers were a number of
business associates and boyhood friends of the deceased, Messrs. M.
M. Smith,
F. H. Leonard, Geo. Durward, Douglas Woolley,
Harold
Osborne and John Brookfield.
Messrs. P. G. Marshall,
Arthur Edmonds and
Russell McIntosh rendered the funeral music.
Burial was made in Oakwood
Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Agar is the grandmother and Mr. Thomas J. Agar
an uncle of the deceased.
