A lightly edited partial transcript of the Port Dover column on page 7 of 23 May 1918 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

Georganna Austin, (nee Doan), whose parents,
James and Margaret Doan, settled in Lynn Valley
in 1813, was born on the farm situated in that
part of the valley known as Doan's Hollow.

She married Isaac Austin, son of Rev. Abram Austin,
who predeceased her.

Deceased had been a resident of Port Dover for
over four decades. Of a kindly and hospitable
disposition, Mrs. Austin was beloved by all.

Though her eye-sight was partially gone,
deceased had knitted 56 pairs of socks to be
sent overseas and was awaiting the arrival of
more yarn that she might help add to the comfort
of our lads overseas, when the summons came.

Three sons, Nathan of Ontario, California,
William of Chatham, Isaac of Simcoe, and one
daughter, Mrs. Homer Smithson of Brantford,
are left to regret the passing of a loving mother.

Mrs. Austin is also survived by her sisters,
Mrs. Orr of Fort Francis, Mrs. W. H. Caley of Port Dover, Mrs. Chas. Nunn of Tillsonburg, her sister-in-law
Mrs. Rose Doan of Walkerville, and her brother,
Burke Doan of Iowa.

After a service at the residence of her brother-in-law
W. H. Caley, conducted by Rev. J. Robertson, interment was made in a spot overlooking the peaceful vale which was her birthplace. Among the numerous floral offerings were a cross and spray of wild flowers garnered by loving hands from the woods of the Doan homestead.
