Managed Arena in 
Town Many Years, 
Stanley Cross Dies

Popular manager of the old Mason Arena here for many years, F. Stanley Cross, 402 West Street, Simcoe, died this morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, in his 76th year.

Born in Oxford County, he was married in Simcoe in 
1901 to Mary Jane Mason, who died in 1952. 
In addition to managing the arena, which collapsed 
under heavy snow in 1945, Mr. Cross was a trustee 
of St. James United Church and a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.

Surviving are one son, Morley Cross of Simcoe, one daughter, Mrs. Ross Spencer (Helen) of Simcoe; 
two brothers, Dr. Frank Cross of Brantford and 
Herbert Cross of Tillsonburg, and one sister, 
Mrs. Gordon Cockburn (Stella) of Woodstock.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. 
from the George W. Baldock Funeral Home with 
Rev. Silvanus Edworthy officiating and interment 
in Oakwood Cemetery.

Funeral service for F. Stanley Cross, who was for many years manager of the old Mason Arena in Simcoe, was held from the George W. Baldock Funeral Home on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Silvanus Edworthy of 
St. James United Church officiating and interment 
in Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joseph Thompson, William Spencer, Harold Pond, Harry Judd, Wilfred Cardiff, and 
Jack Crabb. Honorary bearers were Eddie Whitehead, Ellison Jeffrey, Harvey Evans, Elmo Riddle, 
Bruce Pearce, Thomas Richards and William Martin.

Floral tributes were from: 
the Official Board of St. James United Church; 
the Strangway Girls; 
Chrysler-Plymouth-Fargo of Toronto Region; 
St. James W.A.; J. B. Jackson Garage; 
staff and employees of Canadian Canners Limited of Simcoe, Lions Club and six Gideon Bibles.
