A lightly edited partial transcription of the Items of Local Interest column on page 15 of the
12 Dec 1918 issue of Simcoe Reformer

Col. and Mrs. H. L. Coombs very quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Monday by being entertained at dinner by a neighbor.

Their children, three sons and a daughter, could not be present on the auspicious occasion, unfortunately. Frank Coombs is living in New York State. Arthur is living West, Captain Harry Coombs is overseas, and one daughter lives in Sarnia.

Col. Coombs, who served his country during the Fenian troubles, and who has been officer commanding Norfolk's 39th Regiment, is well and favorably known to his fellow Simconians, as is Mrs. Coombs, and were welcomed heartily back to Simcoe several years ago after a stay in Oakville.

The Reformer extends to them its heartiest good wishes for a continuance of their married life, and hopes for them the best of health.
