The late Mr. Bowman and Thomas Arnold went out with a gun to try and kill a cat

KELVIN

A sad and fatal accident occurred in the village on Saturday 15 Jun 1918 when Harvey Bowman, aged 86 years, was accidentally shot by Thos. Arnold.

It appears that Mr. Bowman wanted Arnold to shoot a cat that was killing his chickens, and while in the act of handling the gun, by some means the trigger caught in his trousers and the gun discharged, the shot lodging in the calf of the unfortunate man's leg, badly lacerating the flesh and splitting the bone.

Three doctors were immediately called and amputation was decided upon. The shock, however, was too much for the aged patient, and death ensued the following morning.

The funeral service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon from his late residence by Rev. Mr. Freeman, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Kelvin Cemetery.

Deceased leaves to mourn his demise a widow and grown-up family who have the sympathy of the whole community in their bereavement.
