Death of Mrs. Wm. Barber

On 29 Nov 1918 there was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery the body of Mrs. William Barber : Margaret Mary Evans was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Evans, well known and highly respected in Waterford. "Maggie" herself too had many friends in the place.

The wife of Mr. William Barber, whose family is also very well known in the neighborhood of Waterford, she also resided at Hamilton, where his husband's work lay : their family consisted of three boys and one little girl, who died last October, aged only three months, to the intense grief of the parents.

Mrs. Barber had been in failing health for many months. She had  been taken to the Mountain Sanatarium [sic] at Hamilton, where is was hoped that the fresher air might be beneficial : later it was thought well to remove her to her home, but she passed away quietly only a few days after.

The funeral service was held in Trinity church and was conducted by the Rector : a large number of friends gathered together and the coffin was covered with a profusion of floral tributes.

It had been Mrs. Barber's wish to be taken to the church that she loved : and this was in full harmony with her gentle Christian character : the isolation at the sanatarium and the separation from her home were no light burdens to endure, but "patience had her perfect work," and now she is at rest.

The sympathy of all will be given to her husband, parents and other relatives; we thank God for lives like hers, and realize with new force that our faith is not vain.
