A lightly edited partial transcript of the Port Dover column on page 6 of the 28 Nov 1918 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

The many friends of Mrs. F. D. Awde regretted very much to hear of her sudden death on Wednesday 23 Oct 1918.

She was taken ill about a week previously with an attack of influenza, followed by pneumonia, and in spite of the best medical care she passed away on the above date.

Her maiden name was Ellen Wright, she being the youngest daughter of Thomas Wright of Walpole Township.

Nineteen years ago she was married to Francis Douglas Awde of Port Dover, where she resided till her death.

She was a valued member of the Methodist Church in Port Dover.

Deceased leaves to mourn her demise her sorrowing husband, one son, Earl, two step-daughters, Mrs. Samuel Robinson of the Plank Road, and Mrs. E. H. Jones of Hamilton; her father, one brother, and one sister. to whom the sympathy of the community is extended in their sad bereavement.

The funeral (private) took place on Friday, 25 Oct 1918, to the Gill Cemetery, near Hagersville.

F. D. Awde, who had a severe attack of Spanish influenza, is convalescing slowing, but is not yet able to leave his residence.
