WATERFORD
After a short illness of
only a few weeks, there passed peacefully away Tuesday, 16 Sep 1918,
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Potts of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs.
Charity Jane Allan, in her 79th year.
The late Mrs. Allan was of
United Empire Loyalist stock, and was born and brought up near
Boston.
After her marriage to
William Allan, a Past Master of Wilson Lodge No 113, A.F. and A.M.,
they moved to Waterford, 47 years ago, where Mr. Allan died the
following year.
The deceased struggled along
and raised a family of four daughters and one son. Three of
these,
Mrs. H. F. Masecar of Boise City, Idaho, Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Potts
of Buffalo, survive to mourn their sad loss, and have the sincere
sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
The remains were accompanied
by Mr. and Mrs. C. Potts and two sons, Ray and Allan, Mrs. Nichols
and Mrs. Masecar, and arrived here Tuesday, 17 Sep 1918.
The funeral took place from
the home of the deceased, Thursday afternoon, 19 Sep 1918 at 2.30
o'clock. The services were conducted by the Rev. E. R. Fitch, pastor
of the deceased, who was a member of the Baptist Church. Interment
took place in Greenwood Cemetery.
The late Mrs. Allan lived
here until owning to illness about a year ago Christmas, she went to
live with her daughter in Buffalo.
About three months ago her
brother, James Birdsell,
who also spent his last years with Mrs. Potts, died,
and Mrs. Allan accompanied the remains to Waterford, and with Mrs.
Nichols remained here until about
six weeks ago, when they returned to Buffalo.
Mrs. Masecar was able to
reach Buffalo from Boise City about two weeks before her mother's
death.
The family have been
particularly unfortunate of late, as in the past two years four of
their members has been called away in the persons of the late James
Allan,
Mr. Nichols, Mr. Birdsell and Mrs. Allan.
