E. S. B. Moore
Prominent Simcoe
photographer and one of the community's best known citizens, E. S. B.
Moore died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, on Saturday morning.
Although he had not been in good health for some time, his death came
unexpectedly.
Everett Stanley
Byrd Moore, who was in his 7]6]th year, was born in London, Ontario.,
a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. T. D. S. Moore, his father being one
of Ontario's best known journalists. As a boy, Mr. Moore moved with
his family to Toronto, where he received his education.
Deceased
possessed a latent talent for photography and in early years he was
associated with such well-known Toronto firms as Lyonde and Farmer
Brothers. He spent six years with the Swift Co. in Chicago and some
time in Hamilton before coming to Simcoe 43 years ago to purchase the
studio formerly owned by S. G. Asseltine.
Since coming to
Simcoe, Mr. Moore had given a lifetime of service to the task of
photographing citizens of Norfolk and doing commercial photography for
business and industrial firms in the town and district.
Practically every
prominent Norfolk citizen of the past half century had been
photographed by him and he became recognized as one of the most
talented portrait photographers in Southern Ontario.
His excellent
photography won him numerous awards in province-wide competition under
auspices of the Ontario Society of Photographers. His exhibits were
out-standing features of the Norfolk County Fair and he never missed
one in the 48 years.
Aside from his
business, Mr. Moore took a prominent role in community affairs. He
served as president of the Simcoe Rotary Club and the Simcoe Lions
Club and was an active member of Trinity Anglican Church. A fine
golfer, he played on the men's team of the Norfolk Golf and Country
Club for many years.
In Toronto, in
1902, he was married to Lily Maude Clark, who predeceased him on
December 4, 1949.
Surviving are two
sons, Stanley D. Moore of Woodstock and Francis Everett Moore of
Belleville. Deceased was the last surviving member of his family.
Mr. Moore is
resting at the Walsh Funeral Home and service will be conducted in
Trinity Anglican Church on Tuesday at two o'clock by the rector, Rev.
John L. Duncan. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
