The
village of Bookton and its surrounding country has lost this week one
of its best-known and most esteemed citizens in the person of the late
Henry J. Middough, whose death occured [sic] at his home there
Monday morning last in the 66th year of his age.
The news of this
event will no doubt surprise many readers of the Gazette, the
gentleman in question having been apparently the very type of good
health and having indeed never known anything else but good health up
to last Friday when severe stomach troubles set in and in spite of all
that affection and medical skill could do he sank speedily and it soon
became evident that the end was at hand.
After a season of
severe pain he became quieter and ultimately passed away peacefully at
about five o'clock on Monday morning.
Deceased was a
bachelor and was a man of excellent character and intelligence and was
known far and wide as a successful farmer.
The funeral took
place yesterday, the service at the Presbyterian church there being a
large attendance. Rev. J. M. Mill[a]r officiated pointing out solemn
lessons of the occasion. -- Norwich Gazette.
