It becomes our sad
duty to chronicle the sudden death of another resident of Townsend in
the person of Mrs. Alfred Messecar of Round Plains, which occurred on
March 1st at her own residence, at the early age of 43 years, five
months and 14 days.
There had been a social
gathering of several of her neighbors at her house on the day of her
death, when she was enjoying her usual good health. She partook of a
hearty dinner with her friends and after supper she went to the stable
to do the milking. On arriving there she complained of strange
sensations and much pain in her head to a son who was present and he
summoned his father who immediately came to her assistance, but she soon
became paralysed and was quickly unconscious, which she did not regain.
She was at once taken to the house and immediately medical aid was
summoned, but no relief could be given and she passed away at 9 p.m.
The suddenness of her death was
not only a shock to the family but to the entire community in which she
was held in high esteem
She was the only daughter of
Andrew and Lucy Lee, now of Michigan, there being four sons in the
family. Her birthplace was Townsend and with the exception of nine years
when young having had her home with the family in Michigan. She has
resided for the most part of her life in the immediate vicinity, two
years however were spent in Huron County immediately after her marriage
to Mr. Messecar, which occurred when she was about 17 years old. By the
marriage the family consists of one daughter and six sons, one having
died when a lad of eight years old.
