-- Mrs. Nettie Merritt, widow of the late Robert Merritt, of Oakland, Brant county, passed away Sunday morning at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. T. H. Duncombe, St. Thomas. The deceased lady had been sick for a month past. She was attacked by the measles and other complications ensuing, the result was fatal.

Mrs. Merritt was born in Scotland, Brant county, her father being the late Charles Chapin, one of the leaders and active participants in the rebellion of '37. Mr. Chapin was arrested for his part in the rebellion, and imprisoned for six months. Mrs. Merritt's husband, Robert, who was a farmer at Oakland, died ten years ago., and for the past eight years she has resided in St. Thomas.

She leaves but one daughter, Mrs. T. H. Duncombe. 
Mesdames J. B. Smith, St. Thomas; Church, Scotland; 
Smith, Tillsonburg; and W. Widner, of Simcoe; are sisters of deceased, and Messrs. L. Chapin, of Brantford, and E. Chapin of Simcoe, are brothers.

The remains were taken to Scotland Tuesday for interment.
