Obituary

Miss Lucy Merritt, an aged lady, died at her home, West street, Waterford, on Sunday night last.

She was born on the 11th concession, Townsend, where her father and mother, Isaac and Susan Merritt, owned 200 acres of land.

She was the fourth of a family of seven children, three boys and four girls -- Dr. I. A. Merritt, Elijah and John and Susan, Percilla and Harriett.

Her father and mother were of the first settlers in that neighborhood. Her mother was a Beemer, daughter of John Beemer and aunt of the late Philip and Henry Beemer, and John and Levi Beemer, of Colborne and Toronto. Her father was a U. E. Loyalist, coming to Canada from New York State.

Deceased was a member of the Waterford Baptist church. The funeral took place on Wednesday from her late residence to Greenwood cemetery. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Dr. Murdoch.
