Died in California

The Globe of Friday last contained an item to the effect that on the day previous there had passed away at Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Frances McDonald, at the advanced age of [8]2 years.

The deceased was a granddaughter of the well-known pioneer U. E. Loyalist, Col. Joseph Ryerson, of Charlotteville, father of the famous Ryerson brothers, John, William and Egerton.

Her father was Captain James Mitchell, who commanded a company of the Norfolk Milita at the battle of Lundy's Lane, and who was afterwards made judge of the London District. He was the occupant of that post when the district capital was removed from Vittoria to London in 1826.

Mrs. McDonald's husband was Hon. Donald McDonald, a member of the Legislative Council of Canada for Tecamach Division from 1863 to Confederation.

She was the mother of fourteen children, of whom nine survive, some in Toronto, but the greater number of them in California
