Death
of T. H. McCord
A highly respected citizen of
Port Burwell died Monday, 18 Sep 1916, in the person of Thomas H.
McCord, after an illness of one year.
He was 54 years of age and
was born on the north road, Houghton township, on the old McCord
homestead, now occupied by his brother William.
Deceased served as a
councillor for the township of Houghton at one time and
also was treasurer of that municipality for several years.
In 1895 he was married to
Miss Edith [sic] Burton, and from this union two children, Burton and
Charlie, are still living.
After the death of his first
wife, Mr. McCord conducted an implement business in Port Rowan and in
1907 was married to Miss Edith [sic] Saxton of that place, who survives
him.
On his return to Houghton he
dwelt on his own farm until moving to Port Burwell about five years
ago, and was district superintendent for the Niagara and Erie Land
Corporation from the start of that company's business in this
district until last year, when ill-health compelled him to resign.
Besides his widow, deceased
leaves to [sic] sons and a little daughter to mourn his loss. The brothers
and sisters are: Mrs. J. A. Crawford, Fairground; Mrs. (Dr.)
Tweedale, Port Burwell; Miss Matilda and William of Houghton.
The funeral was conducted
under the auspices of the Orange Order at the Second Houghton
Baptist Church on Thursday last.
