The death occurred on
Monday, Sept. 8th, at his home in Houghton, near Guysboro, after an
illness of eight weeks, of Mr. W. P. Mabee, one of the pioneers of
the district.
Mr. Mabee, who was in his 84th
year, was born in Middlesex, near Guysboro, and resided there until he
grew to manhood, when he purchased the homestead on which he had lived
continuously over 56 years and on which he died.
He was widely known in the
community and highly respected, possessing many friends.
His wife predeceased him
thirteen years.
The children who survive him
are: Mrs. James McBride of Tillsonburg;
Mrs. Lewis Woolley and Mrs. Geo.
Corlas of Avon;
Mrs. Chas. Atkinson of Dereham near Tillsonburg; James
of Guysboro;
Aquilla and William of Langton; Thomas of Straffordville;
and Clarence, who lives on the homestead.
The funeral took place on
Wednesday afternoon of last week and was attended by many relatives and
friends. Interment was made at the Guysboro cemetery.
