Isaac
Kitchen Dead at 92
Nonagenarian passed to his rest on
Thursday last -- Native of Norfolk
At
the ripe old age of 92 years, 7 months and 16 days, Isaac Kitchen passed
to his rest last Thursday at the home of his son, Ralph J.
Kitchen, 95 Head Street.
Mr.
Kitchen was a native of the county having been born in Townsend, where he
lived till about forty years ago, when he moved to Woodhouse, near Port
Dover. About thirty years ago he moved to Simcoe and took up residence
on Colborne street, where he lived until a year ago last December, when
he moved over to Head street to be with his son.
The
late Mr. Kitchen has been well known in Norfolk County since he was a
young man. During his residence in Woodhouse Township he served for a
time as township councillor [sic] and after coming to Simcoe was elected an
alderman.
In
his younger days he did a good deal of buying and selling of stock. He
was also overseer of the County Home for a number of years. During his
residence in Simcoe, he has been a justice of the peace and has served
the public in this capacity a great deal.
Mr.
Kitchen married early, choosing for his life partner Mary Ann Smith, who
only predeceased her husband eight years ago.
The
marriage was blest [sic] with five children, three of whom are
still living. Rolph H. Kitchen, Simcoe, is the eldest, and between
him and his brother Edway D., of Delhi, was a girl who died when about
10 or 12 years of age. After Mrs. Frank Smith, who lives in the former
home of her parents on Colborne street, there was a baby boy, who died
in infancy.
Although
the race has not been one of numerous progeny, the name is likely to
be perpetuated for a long time to come.
Edward
D. Kitchen of Delhi has two children, Lola, Mrs. Frank Quance, and
Clendon. Clendon has a boy and a girl to whom, therefore Isaac Kitchen
was great-grandfather.
It
is in Rolph H. Kitchen's family that the deceased
leaves the greatest number of descendants.
To
Mr. and Mrs. Rolph Kitchen, who celebrated their golden wedding a
couple of years ago, there were born Alvey, John and Alice M. Alvey
lives at Port Dover and has one boy and three girls who called Isaac Kitchen
their great-grandfather. John, of Delhi, has two boys and one
girl the same generation. Alice is Mrs. Walker Waddle of Doan's Hollow,
and has three boys and one girl. The boys are Roy, at Travistock; Wyatt,
with S. L. Krompart in the agency business in Simcoe; and Lynn at Doan's
Hollow. The only daughter of now Mrs. Oray Lewis, who has one son to
mourn the loss of a great-grandfather in the death of Isaac Kitchen.
The late Mr.
Kitchen, therefore, left to mourn his death, three children, five
grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Isaac Kitchen was
the oldest Mason in Norfolk County, having joined this order when quite
a quite man.

Baptist church, officiating. Interment was made in Collver's Burying
Ground Saturday afternoon.
