John
House, a highly respected resident of Courtland
for the past 42 years, passed away
at his late home, Thursday, following an illness
of two weeks. He was in his 8oth year.
Born in Bayham, the deceased was a son of the late
John S. and Mary House. On February 28, 1883, he
married Lo-Emma Safford, Houghton, who passed on
five years ago.
For many years he conducted a very successful
lumber business.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. G.
Burnett and Mrs. Ethel Troyer, and two sons, Earl
and Lloyd, also one brother Charles House, all of
Courtland, 10 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from his late residence,
Talbot Street this afternoon, with service in the
United church and interment in the Courtland
Baptist cemetery. Rev. H. W. Watts will have
charge of the service. |

Courtland:
Following an illness of two weeks the death occurred of
John S. House at his late residence, Talbot street,
Thursday, Dec. 10.
Born in Bayham, the deceased was the son of the late John
and Mary House. He was in his 80th year.
Mr. House lived in Houghton and Walsingham until some 40
years ago when he moved to Courtland where he conducted a
very successful lumber business.
In February, 1883, he married Lo-Emma Safford of Houghton,
[who] predeceased him five years ago. One son, Leo, also
passed on about 37 years ago.
He leaves to mourn, two daughters,
Mrs. J. G. Burnett and Mrs. Ethel Troyer,
two sons, Earl and Lloyd; also one brother Charles House,
all of Courtland. Ten grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. E. Pressey of
Houghton passed on three years ago.
The funeral was held today at his late residence at 2 p.m.
Service in the Courtland United Church and interment in
the Baptist Cemetery. Rev. H. W. Watts will have charge of
the service. |
