The Late Miles Holmes

There died on Thursday last a man widely known in Norfolk County in the person of Miles Holmes, in the 54th year of his age.

The late Mr. Holmes had not been in robust health for some months past, but was not at any time thought seriously ill. He had consulted a physician only the day before he died and was told that he should have had medical aid long before, as he was suffering from dropsy.

On the morning of his death, he had been up as usual, and his wife  being absent from him for a few minutes, returned and found had passed away.

The late Mr. Holmes was born in Charlotteville Centre, and has spent his life in Norfolk County, coming to Simcoe about ten years ago from Port Rowan.

For a number of years he conducted an implement warehouse on Colborne street, and later took up auctioneering, which he continued until quite recently.

He leaves, besides his wife, four sons and three daughters. The sons are: Lyle, of Port Rowan; Orin of Hamilton; Harry and Austin, both in the employ of the Grand Trunk Railway Co., at the Air Line depot. The daughters are: Mrs. Harry Young and Miss Jennie Holmes of Waterford; and Miss Alice at home. A brother at Charlotteville Centre and two sisters in Michigan also survive.

The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to Oakwood Cemetery, services being conducted at the family home on Main street, by Rev. H. C. Newcombe.
