Mrs. Lisle [sic] Holmes died at her home in this village last Friday, at the age of 30 years, after an illness of several months.

Mrs. Holmes was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Chapman, and a niece of the late Squire Oran Dewitt of Langton and Eugene Dewitt, late of Port Royal.

Besides her husband she leaves two little daughters, aged [.] and 3 years, to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Rowland at the home Sunday afternoon and the remains were taken to Lapeer, Mich. for burial on Monday in charge of her mother, who was with her at the time of her death.

The many friends of Mrs. Holmes speak of her as a woman of many excellent qualities, a good friend and neighbor, and Mr. Holmes, who is so well known here, has the sympathy of the entire village in his time of trial and sad loss.

[Compiler's Comment: The deceased is the first wife of Lyle A. Holmes of Port Rowan and later Simcoe. In a 17 Nov 2008 email Janet Chubb of Caron, Sask. reported the 1911 census identifies Lyle's first wife as Edith, born in the U.S.]
