George Holden passes away

Formerly turnkey at the Norfolk County Jail here and one of the town's best known citizens, George Edward Holden, 141 Head Street South, passed away in Norfolk General Hospital on Tuesday evening, following a lengthy illness, in his 68th year.

A native of England, Mr. Holden was a son of the late James Holden and Hannah Scott.

A veteran of the First World War, he served four years with the 58th Battalion and was gassed.

For 16 years he served as turnkey at the jail here and more recently was caretaker at the local Post Office.

Besides his wife formerly Harriett Beer, he is survived by two brothers and two sisters: James Holden Sr. of Simcoe and John S. Holden, Mrs. John Grover and Mrs Ada Chapman, all in England.

The funeral will be held on Friday at two o'clock from the Walsh Funeral Home. Rev C. C. W. Masters of Trinity Anglican Church will have charge of the service. Interment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.
