The
death of Mrs. John Hetherington occurred at the home of her
son-in-law, Mr. George Bentley, Tillsonburg, on Sunday, May 22nd, 1910
after a very short illness.
Mrs. Hetherington
had been feeling as well as usual on Saturday and was about the house
that day. In the evening she became ill and passed away early Sunday
morning. She had been suffering from heart trouble, however, which
caused her death.
Deceased was born
in Oxford County seventy-five years ago, and after her marriage to Mr.
Hetherington, which took place when she was eighteen years of age,
they moved to Simcoe.
Sometime later
they settled on a new farm in Walsingham, a short distance west of Wyecombe, where Mr. Hetherington died sixteen years ago.
Mrs. Hetherington
remained on the homestead altogether forty years and left it about
eight years ago, when she accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Bentley, to Tillsonburg.
She was a member
of the Tillsonburg Methodist Church, and her death was announced from
the pulpit on Sunday morning by the pastor.
She is survived
by six children -- Mrs. George Bentley, with whom she made her home;
Mrs. Byron Roberts, of Windsor; Mr. George Hetherington, of Langton;
John, of Sharbot Lake; Charles, of Toronto, and Joseph, of Delhi. Mrs.
S. F. Lovell of Acacia, is a sister, and one brother resided in
Minnesota.
The funeral took
place on Tuesday. After a short service at the house, the body was
taken to Wyecombe, where a service was held in the Methodist Church,
the interment being made at the Wyecombe cemetery.
Among those
present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John Hetherington, of
Sharbot Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hetherington, of Toronto, and Mrs.
B. Roberts and son, Oscar, of Windsor.
