Thomas
Hathaway died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. Barringer, in Port
Rowan, on Friday last, at the ripe old age of 86 years.
Mr. Hathaway
was born in Wiltshire, England, and came to Canada when 21 years old.
He married Fanny Woodward and
settled in a home just north of St. Williams, where they lived until
the death of Mrs. Hathaway, which occurred about thirteen years ago.
Since then he has made his home with his daughter.
He is survived by four sons
and three daughters: Edward, James and Charles of St. Williams, and
William of Port Rowan; Mrs. H. Barringer (Nettie), Port Rowan; Mrs.
William Griffin (Ann) of Forestville; and Mrs. J. Proudlove (Rose) of
Peterboro.
The deceased was noted for his
integrity and was honorable in all his dealings throughout his long
life. Being an extensive reader and possessing the gift of a quaint
humor, conversation with him was most interesting.
The funeral was held from the
house of Sunday, conducted by Rev. A. J. Crighton [sic]. Interment took
place in the Newkirk cemetery, St. Williams.
