On the 13th of August,
1824, Peter S. Griffin was born on lot 8, concession fourteen, Windham,
within half a mile of where he is spending his declining years; and with
the exception of less than a year he has lived the whole of his ninety
years in the neighborhood of his birth.
In view of his extreme age it
was not deemed advisable to have a celebration of his birthday on a
large scale. But on Sunday last five of his seven children with
their respective husbands and wives, together with seven grandchildren,
were present to take dinner with him.
Those present were Sanfield, of
Newbury, Ont.; Mrs. Ida Reid, of Buffalo, N. Y.; Mrs. Mary Pullin,
lately of Portland, Oregon, but now of Charlotteville; Mrs. Florence Ward
(with whom Mr. Griffin lives); and Horace of Los Angeles, Cal. It has
been years since some of these saw each other last. A pleasant few hours
were spent by all. Mr. Griffin is still in a fair state of health
considering his age.
