Obituary

It is with feelings of the deepest regret that we chronicle the demise of one of Simcoe's most honored and respected citizens, The Rev. Canon Grasett, M.A., rector of Woodhouse, and Incumbent of Trinity Church, Simcoe.

Deceased gentleman was born in Quebec on the 21st day of April, 1826, and was consequently in the 54th year of his age. He was educated at Upper Canada College, and afterward King's College, where he graduated. He was ordained a Deacon in 1848. In 1859 he was appointed to this town upon the death of the Rev. Francis Evans.

On Sunday morning last he accompanied his Lordship the Bishop of Huron to Dover, where the rite of confirmation was to be administered to a class of applicants.

During the service he was noticed to suddenly become unwell, he was instantly assisted to the vestry where he became unconscious; his family were at once sent for but he never sufficiently recovered to recognize any of them. He died that evening about ten o'clock at the residence of the Rev. J. F. Renaud whither he had been removed.

In his death Simcoe loses an honored citizen, his church a faithful pastor, his family an indulgent father and the poor a helping and generous friend. Long indeed will he be missed from our midst.

Yesterday (Wednesday) his remains were conveyed to St. John's Cemetery, Woodhouse, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends. All the places of business were closed while the funeral possession passed through town.
