Mr. J. M. Foster,
the new Supreme Secretary of the
O. C. H. C., is a comparatively young
man, being but
36 years of age. His boyhood days were spent on his
father's farm, on the shores of Lake Erie, in the
County of
Norfolk.
He received his early education
at the Public school
near his home, and at the Port Rowan High School.
At the latter place he obtained his second-class certificate, after
which he went to the Owen Sound Collegiate Institute, where he obtained
his first-class certificate. He also holds certificates from the Toronto
Normal School and the School of Pedagogy.
After
teaching about eight years, as a High School assistant, or as a head
master of Public schools, Mr. Foster decided to undertake the labors and
enjoy the advantages of a University training. Accordingly he entered
Toronto University and pursued his studies with such success that we has
awarded first-class honors in each year of his course, and graduated
with first-class honors, obtaining his degree of B. A. in 1896.
On
his election to the important office of Supreme Secretary he was forced
to resign, amidst universal expressions of regret, his position as
science and commercial master in the Simcoe High School.-- Home
Circle Leader.
(Mr.
Foster was for a number of years Principal of the Waterford Public
School and his many friends are pleased to note his progress.)
