John A. Durward, aged 65, who died in Simcoe on Monday, June 15th, after an illness which had its inception some months ago, was a well-known and much respected citizen.

Mr. Durward came with his parents from Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1852, was of a quiet and unassuming disposition, content to do his duty as he saw it, and won the respect and admiration of his fellow citizens. He was a son of the late Alexander Durward, one of the best known merchant tailors of the county in his day.

The deceased leaves to mourn the loss of a kind father and loving husband, a wife and a large family. His sons are Walter, of the Bank of Hamilton, Simcoe; George, with the J. B. Jackson Co.; and his daughters are Mrs. N. H. Washburn, of Ottawa; Margaret, attending Normal School at Hamilton; and Grace, at home. His mother Mrs. Alexander Durward, and his brothers, Walter, of Tillsonburg; David, of Buffalo; and Charles, of Hamilton; and his sisters, Miss Annie, of Tillsonburg, and Mrs. Mathewson, of Vancouver, also survive.

The funeral took place from his late residence, Talbot Street South, on Friday morning, June 19th, at 10 o'clock, to Oakwood Cemetery, and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Irwin.
