Obituary

Many friends will be sincerely sorry to learn of the death of the late [Abel] Dowswell, who died at his residence near Ringold [sic], Virginia, after a very short illness of pneumonia.

He was the eldest son of the late James and Jeannette Dowswell. Our brother was born in Galt in [sic] Oct. 9th, 1841, and resided in Norfolk county until about twenty-one years ago, moving to Virginia, where he owned a large plantation.

His two brothers, James and John Dowswell of Lynedoch, attended his funeral.

Mr. Dowswell was an esteemed member of the Baptist Church at Ringgold. He was converted to Church in early manhood and for a number of years was deacon of the Pine Grove Baptist Church.

A man of pronounced religious convictions. He enjoyed the full confidence, esteem and good will of his fellow brethren.

The community will miss him for he was a man high respected. He was a devoted husband and father and leaves to mourn his demise a loving wife and one son, John Dowswell of Virginia; also two brothers: John Dowswell of Lynedoch and James Dowswell of Glenshee; and five sisters: Mrs. Henry Brown, Port Rowan; Mrs. John Woodard, St. George, Mrs. Albert Collins, Simcoe; Mrs. Frank Schuyler, Simcoe; Mrs. Irwin Collins, Simcoe.
