Former Norfolk Warden near 92

Warden of Norfolk County 48 years ago and a resident of Delhi for many years, Dent Dalton will observe his 92nd birthday on Friday, February 13, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Muir, 30 Oswald Crescent, Toronto, with whom he has resided since 1938.

Born two and one-half miles north of Delhi, Mr. Dalton is the last of four children of the late Richard Dalton and Mary Ireland. He was educated at the Pine Woods and Gothic Schools near Delhi, and farmed many years, both in Norfolk County and in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In addition, he and his son operated a factory in Delhi for 20 years, manufacturing gloves, robes and coats, until the factory burned.

Extremely active in municipal affairs, Mr. Dalton served as reeve of Delhi in 1900, 1902 and 1903, and again in 1925 and 1926. He was warden of the county in 1900, for two years chairman of the County Home Committee and two years chairman of the Children's Shelter.

He is a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, Toronto, and of the Independent Order of Foresters. He also was Supreme Leader of the Order of Canadian Home Circles, which is now amalgamated with the I.O.F.

At one time Mr. Dalton was a widely-known breeder and exhibitor of road and carriage horses, and he has in his possession some very fine gold medals won in 1895 [....], Montreal and Toronto.

In [1882] Mr. Dalton was married  [to] Hannah Hagerman of Windham [township], the wedding taking [place] at St. Alban's Church in Delhi. Mrs. Dalton passed away in 1938 and since that time he has made his home with his daughter, Leta, Mrs. Muir. He also has one son, Richard A. Dalton of Thursby, Alberta, and there are two grandchildren.
