Stephen James Crane

On Thursday, 7 Jun 1928, the death of Stephen James Crane, 68, took place at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alfred Hall, Vanessa. He had always lived in Windham, except 10 years which he spent in Tillsonburg.

He was for many years identified with municipal and county roads administration in Windham, occupying successfully the positions as councillor, deputy reeve and reeve.

The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Green, at the Vanessa United Church on Sunday, 10 Jun 1928. Interment was at the Vanessa Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. A. Hall of Vanessa, Mrs. W. R. Bannister of Brantford and Miss Eva Crane of Brantford; three sons, Howard of Boston, Charles of Little Lake, and Ambrose of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. A. Miller of Teeterville.

Those present at the funeral from a distance were: Miss Iva Crane, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Spence of Endicott, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Force of Detroit; Mrs. F. Haywood of London; Mr. Jim Cox of Brantford; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Weaver of Mount Pleasant.
