Old Settler Gone

The death of David L. Charters removes another of the old settlers of Townsend. He was 89 years of age and spent 57 years of that time on the farm where he died.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, the 24th inst., being conducted by Mr. Norman Burke, in the absence of the pastor, Rev. Mr. Douglas.

Mr. Charters was born 12 Feb 1812 in Kilmarnock, Scotland, married Janet Ferguson of Palsley, Scotland in 1835, and he and his good wife emigrated to Canada in 1845.

They celebrated their golden wedding in 1885, and diamond wedding in 1895. Three years later Mrs. Charters died.

Mr. Charters was a member of the Methodist church and L.O.L., of Hartford. Mrs. J. G. Sewell of Waterford is a daughter. -- Star
