After a brief illness Jim passed away on January 21, 2010 in Winnipeg after living 92 wonderful, health-filled years.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Paddy. He is also survived by his daughter Diane Whyard (Bruce), son Stephen (Faye), grandchildren Chris Whyard (Rhoni), Ashley Buchan (Darren), Trisha Causley-Bennett (David), Nikki Macauley (Sean), and Robert Causley (Nadia); also six great-grandchildren Findley, Margot, Madeleine, Leo James, Emily and Malcom. Jim was predeceased by his granddaughter Leslie Causley.

After graduation from Queens University Jim served with the Royal Canadian Artillery and saw action in Europe. He met and married Paddy while in Britain.

After the war he taught school in Simcoe, Ontario before assuming the position as director of the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund. He continued in that position until his retirement after which he and Paddy moved to Winnipeg.

Jim's passions in life were, first and foremost, his wife and family followed by music, crosswords, pies and singing loudly in elevators. He had little tolerance for vegetables, fresh air (the great outdoors) or coffee served in anything but a cup and saucer. He will live in our hearts and memories as the most kind, loving and generous person ever.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd., Winnipeg. A brief reception will follow at the Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fort Garry United Church or a charity of your choice.

Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. - Horatio
