An unedited transcription of an article from the 28 Apr 1892 Norfolk Reformer. Marriage of Mayor Campbell Buffalo Courier, April 24 The marriage of Miss Louise
Hazard, granddaughter of Mr. George S. Hazard, and Mr. J. Lorne Campbell,
Mayor of Simcoe, Canada, was celebrated in the great drawing-room of the
old Delaware Avenue home at 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening. Relatives and
near friends who had been verbally invited filled the apartment, and as
Mr. Frank W. Fiske, Jr., and Mr. Shepard Kimberly held the pink ribbons,
the Rt. Rev. Bishop Coxe and the Rev. Francis Lobdell entered and took
their places opposite the doorway and by the prayer stool. The
bridesmaids, Miss Evelyn Fiske and Miss Sarah M. Hazard, led the way,
little Mary Campbell coming just before the bride, who was joined at the
foot of the stairs by her grandfather. After them came Mrs. Robert
Keating Root and Mrs. Seward Cary. The groom was attended by Mr.
Campbell Becher. As a background for the wedding party was an
immense mirror veiled with climbing asparagus, framed by tall palms.
In every part of the room roses in great clusters perfumed the air, and
the maids carried La France roses with their gowns of organdie
muslins. White satin with point lace was worn by the bride, lilies
of the valley fastening the veil to her head; the hand cluster was of
white roses. The groom's gift, which she wore, was a chain and
pendant set with diamonds, her other jewels being a diamond crescent and a
star of diamonds and pearls, the latter pinning the veil. An informal
supper followed the reception, and later Mr. and Mrs. Campbell departed
for a honeymoon trip. Among the out of town guests were Mrs. Archie
Campbell and Duncan Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Hale of Brantford, Mrs. Lorne
Becher and Mr. Archie Becher of London, and Mrs. Skae, Miss Skae, Mr. Fay
and Miss Cumberland of Toronto. |
