The passing of
Dr. William Burt of Simcoe marks the severing of another link with
an earlier period in the history of this district. Although he was
born in Woodhouse, Dr. Burt had lived in Simcoe for more than half
a century. He witnessed great changes in the community and in his
earlier years he took a leading part in shaping events.
Long periods of service in
the municipal and educational affairs of Simcoe earned for him the
deep appreciation of its citizens. Her fellow-workers honoured him
by election to the office of Warden of Norfolk. His services were
also prized highly by the political party to which he adhered and
his influence was felt in the administration of public affairs
generally.
He leaves to carry on an
able representation in his son, Dr. A. C. Burt, M.P.P., for
Norfolk, who served as Mayor of Simcoe, Warden of Norfolk and now
representative of his county in the Legislature. This is the only
instance where a father and son have both served as Warden of
Norfolk. |
