JOY WAS TURNED TO SADNESS
Died Few Days After Celebrating
Golden Anniversary

Congratulations and good wishes were turned to expressions of sympathy recently at Cultus when Mrs. Wm. Burgar [sic] died a few days after having celebrated with her husband the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding.

On Monday about sixty friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Burgar and took part in the golden wedding.

On Thursday evening Mrs. Burgar was taken suddenly ill and expired the following morning about eleven o'clock.

Mrs. Burgar's maiden name was Rebecca Dickenson. She came from England with her parents when a little girl. She was in her 77th year. She leaves to mourn her loss a bereaved husband, one son, Calvin, and two daughters. The daughters are Mrs. John Aspden, Port Rowan; and Mrs. Andrew Hazen of Fairground.

The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, December 13, to the Methodist church, where Rev. Mr. Chapman held a funeral service. Interment was made in the Cultus cemetery.

Cultus Lady Died Suddenly

Death has again entered our midst and taken from among us a most highly esteemed resident in the person of Mrs. Martin Burger.

She had just celebrated her golden wedding on the previous Monday and was in her usual health till within a few hours of her death, when it became known that she had so soon passed away the entire neighborhood was shocked.

The funeral service was held in the Cultus Methodist church of which she was a member, on Monday. A larger concourse of relatives and friends followed to her last resting place.

The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.

[Compiler's Comment: We found no Burgar stones in Cultus cemetery on 21 May 2003.
We did find several Burger stones there for other members of this family, but none for Rebecca Dickenson or William Burger]
