Port Rowan

The whole village was greatly shocked last Wednesday when it was learned that Isaiah Brown had received word that his eldest son, Leighfield L. Brown had been shot and instantly killed while duck shooting at Long Lake Minnesota, the day before.

There were several boats in the immediate vicinity and nothing is definitely known as to how the accident happened. Mr. Brown was shot in the head and instantly killed.

Mr. Brown was born in Port Rowan and was 37 years of age. He was a graduate from our High School and was an energetic and successful business man.

He married Miss Carrie Tennant of St. Williams, by whom he is survived. He also leaves one son, Ronald, who with his mother is prostrated with grief over the irreparable loss.

Besides his parents he also leaves one brother, Derward L., of this village, and a sister, Miss Geraldine, at home.

The remains reached here on Monday, accompanied by Mrs. Brown and son and were taken to the home of his parents, from which place the funeral was held under the auspices of the A. F. and A. M. that same afternoon.

The large house being filled to capacity with friends and relatives, Miss Templeton-Armstrong preached a short and earnest sermon, the Rev. Mr. Rowland also assisting in the services.

Interment took place in Bay View Cemetery in the presence of a large number of people.
