John Boyce

An esteemed resident, John Boyce, passed to the reward which awaits all Christian souls beyond the grave, with only a few moments to warn him. He died from a severe heart attack on 6 Mar 1930, the exact calendar date his beloved wife predeceased him sixteen years ago.

Mr. Boyce was prominently known in public life, holding the office of bailiff for the Township of Windham, and he was always regarded as a fair and square man in all his dealings with his fellow man.

Born at Ryckman's Corners near Hamilton, moving to Windham when five years of age, he spent 75 years in the Township of Windham.

Mr. Boyce had made his home at the Royal Hotel here in the village and visited back and forth with his daughters and son whom he loved better than life itself.

An ardent member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and ever faithful to his Scotch belief he died embracing the faith of his lifetime. Rev. Dr. Howard of Simcoe , conducted the final rites, stressing the need of strict adherence to the attributes of all Christians, Faith, Hope and Charity.

The remains were laid to rest in Windham Centre Cemetery. The man sorrowing friends present expressed their sympathy and loss of a true friend, tendering many beautiful wreaths, and flowers of the rarest [sic].
