A Birthday Party

September 12, 1902: On Thursday week [sic], a few of the relatives and intimate friends of Mrs. Finlay Steinhoff met at her home on the occasion of her 85th birthday.

Mrs. Steinhoff is the third daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth Boughner. She was born on the Boughner homestead, in the Township of Windham, on 4 Sep 1817, and remained with the family up to the time of her marriage with Thomas A. Powell, on 16 Oct 1839.

She and her husband remained in the neighborhood for a few years, then removed to Simcoe, where they engaged in the hotel business up to the time of Mr. Powell's death, which took place on 7 Mar 1852.

During her widowhood she lived on the premises until her marriage with Finlay Steinhoff of Woodhouse, on 10 Jan 1856.

She was again left a widow in 1887, Mr. Steinhoff dying on 3 Jun that year.

She continued to live on the Steinhoff homestead, much of the time alone, until a few years ago, when the infirmities of age compelled her to change her place of residence, and she removed to Michigan with the intension of spending the remaining part of her life with her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Wood.

Mrs. Wood dying soon after her arrival there, she came back and has since lived with her step-son, Orlando Steinhoff.

Much praise is due Mrs. Orlando Steinhoff, and, in fact, the whole family for their unerring kindness and attention, in trying to make the old lady as comfortable and happy as the circumstance of her great age and infirmities will [allow].
