John Booth was born in the county
of Tyrone, Ireland, in 1818, and died on Jan. 6th, 1910, at the residence
of his daughter, Mrs. Thos. Jackson, Wyecombe, Ont., lacking a few weeks
of being 93 years old.
In 1850 he emigrated from Ireland
with his wife, and after living a few weeks in Simcoe, he settled on a
farm at Wyecombe, in which vicinity he lived until his death.
Mr. Booth was twice married. By
his first wife he had ten children, eight sons and two daughters. His
second wife died in 1904, since which time he had lived to enjoy the
goodly fellowship of his children and grandchildren.
Most of his children have
predeceased him. Three of them died young. William and James died some
years ago; Archie, about two years ago; and John, about one year ago.
There still remain to mourn his loss, and to profit by his exemplary life,
two sons Robert of Courtland, and Joseph of Tillsonburg; and one daughter,
Mrs. Thos. Jackson of Wyecombe; also 21 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Mr. Booth was a highly respected
citizen, a consistent christian, and an influential and useful member of
the Methodist church which he served for many years in the capacity of
class leader. His funeral was largely attended, the service being
conducted by his pastor, Dr. McArthur, of Lynedoch, who preached from John
XII., 24.
