John
Bauslaugh, prominent Brantford business man and vice president of the
Agnew-Surpass Shoe Stores Limited, head office and two stores of which
are located in Brantford, died in Toronto General Hospital Tuesday. He
was 70 years of age.
Deceased was the
brother-in-law of
Mrs. Dennis Bauslaugh and Mr. Robert Erwin of
Simcoe. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bauslaugh of
Waterford.
Mr.
Bauslaugh was at one time president of the John Agnew Company, and
with his brother, the late Frank Bauslaugh, was one of the
founders of the Agnew-Surpass chain of shoe stores.
He
was very active in Brantford's social and fraternal circles, being a
member of the Brantford Kiwanis Club, the Brantford Golf and Country
Club, the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club and the Masonic Order.
He
was also most active at Brant Avenue United Church, being a member of
the Committee of Stewards and of the Official Board.
He
retired from active participation in business in 1928, but following
the death of his brother Frank a year ago, returned to the
Agnew-Surpass Company as vice president.
Mr.
Bauslaugh received his early education in the public and high schools
at Waterford. For some time he was a resident of Woodstock and while
there took a keen interest in civic affairs, being Chairman of the
Board of Education. He returned to Brantford in 1917.
Left
to mourn his loss, besides his widow, the former Margaret McKenzie,
are two daughters, Mrs. Donald Coyne, Santa Monica, Cal., and Mrs. J.
F. Fisher, Toronto, and a sister, Mrs. Alex Edmondson, Echo Place.
The
funeral service was held Friday afternoon from Brantford Avenue United
Church. Interment was in Farrington Burial Ground.
