Townsend Couple 64 years married

Another milestone was passed on Friday last, April 6th, by Mr. and Mrs. Louis [sic] Barber of Boston, Norfolk's longest wedded couple, when they celebrated the 64th anniversary of their marriage.

Mr. Barber is now 87 years old and although not enjoying the best of health, he continues mentally alert and active. His wife, only a few months younger, is still capable of carrying on the duties of her household just as she has for these past sixty-four years.

Mr. Barber was born on the same farm where they live today, on Feb-ruary 28th, 1847 and has lived there all his life with the exception of two years in Denver, Col.

He has been a member of the Baptist Church for 66 years, and recalls when the present Boston church was built in 1851.

With his father, Henry Barber, he went to the Bell Homestead near Brantford to hear the first recorded telephone message from there to Paris.

Mrs. Barber is the daughter of the late Rev. Joel Reddick and Mrs. Reddick and was born near Cobourg in 1847, and moved with her parents to Boston in 1868 and on April 6, 1870 she was married to Louis Barber.

There were seven children, six of whom are living: Fred of Regina, Mrs. Nellie Oxley at home, Harry of St. Catharines, Lloyd of Beverley Hills, California, and Carroll of Brantford, Frank of Boston and one adopted daughter, Edythe Reddick of Beverley Hills, Cal.

There are seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
