The Late Mrs. J. H. Bowlby

The following tribute is paid in the Port Rowan News to the late Mrs. J. H. Bowlby of Woodhouse, who passed away recently:

She was Miss Backus, eldest daughter of the late Mr. Peter Backus and his wife Rececca Hutchinson, who was a daughter of the late Col. Butler Hutchinson,

Mrs. Bowlby was a member of the Anglican Church, as her ancestors were in Canada, and her ancestors in England also, back to the days when good King Arthur ruled that land.

She was a daughter of worthy and influential families on both the paternal and maternal sides.

She was a graduate of the Port Rowan High School and grew into fascinating womanhood, and married Mr. J. H. Bowlby in 1893. They had one daughter, Eva, who was very popular in Port Rowan up to the time of her marriage to Mr. David Cameron, a Scottish architect now living in Windsor.

She is survived by her husband, her daughter, and one sister, Mrs. C. F. W. Atkinson of Port Rowan, and by one grandson.

She had a gentle, kindly soul with an active mind and was able to make and keep friends through life. She was among the many good women who did so much to help and cheer the soldiers at the front. She was a worker in the church and was a faithful attendant of St. John's, Woodhouse, for many years.
