Doctor Annie Backus, who has been spending a week at her father's home, (Mr. J. H. Backus) left Monday to enter upon her duties with Frederick Stearns & Co.

"The doctor's many friends in this vicinity will be glad of her success.  The following copied [from] the [Adrian], Mich., Times speaks for itself.

"After persistent and earnest solicitation on the part of Frederick Stearns, Detroit's prominent wholesale druggist, Dr. Anna Backus has consented to relinquish her practice here and take charge of the literary department of Mr. Stearns' large establishment.

"Dr. Backus' intimate knowledge of the science of [material medicine], and her faculty of using a easy pen has long made her desired by Mr. Stearns. The doctor expects to leave here about the 15th and go to Boston, where she will be engaged during the winter in gathering material for Mr. Stearns' publications.

"Finishing her duties there she will go to Detroit in the spring and remain there permanently.  In the Latter city Dr. Backus will combine a special practice of her profession with her literary pursuits.

"The many friends of the bright and active little woman in this city will regret her departure but send her away with their best wishes."
