Death of an Old Resident

Mr. George M. Adams, a resident in and about Simcoe since 18[48], passed away at his home, McCall street, early on Sunday morning. He was in his 82nd year, and had retained his health and faculties to a remarkable degree up to a very short time ago. Deceased came of U. E. Loyalist stock, and was born in the township of Walpole on Nov. 28, 1832. He was married a few weeks more than sixty-one years ago to Miss Nancy Macdonald, who survives to mourn the loss of a husband, whose joys and sorrows she was permitted to share for a period greater than the average span of human life.

Mr. Adams lived at different times at Waterford, Scotland, Port Dover, returning to Simcoe in 1870. He was engaged for the greater portion of his life in the manufacture of brick and tile. He was endowed with more than average strength and endurance, and in his prime was a fine specimen of manhood, six feet tall, broad-shouldered and vigorous.

There survive to treasure the memory of a good father and exemplary citizen, besides his widow, two sons, Alen of Buffalo, N.Y., George, of St. Louis, Mo., and a daughter, Mrs. R. W. Meade, of Simcoe. Also quite a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three of his children went before him: Henry, the eldest son, died in 1887; Alic[e], wife of Mr. John Lawson of Stratford, and Albert, of Oshawa, who died very suddenly and unexpectedly last year.*

The Late Mrs. Geo. M. Adams

Predeceased a few months by her husband, the hand of death was last Thursday laid upon Nancy McDonald Adams, who for many years was a resident of this town and vicinity. She was nearly 80 years of age, and died after a comparative short illness.

Many residents and friends from out of town came to Simcoe to attend the funeral, which took place Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. Canon Hicks being the officiating clergyman. The interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. George Adams, Chicago, and Mr. Allen Adams, Buffalo, attended their mother's funeral. Others attending from other points were Mrs. Clarence Challen and Mr. A. A. Adams, Hamilton, Miss Mamie Adams, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. [Jfr.fy] Dyer, Port Dover, and Mr. Harry Lawson, Stratford.
